1. Tell us something about yourself…
I was born and raised in Delft. When I was a kid, I went to
Montessori School in Delft, which is an elementary school
where free thinking is encouraged. Being there allowed me
to make my own time schedule and develop my creativity.
The independence and autonomy that I gained from the experience
of going to such a school has helped me with what I do now. In 2012 I got my Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Studies and this month I completed my Master’s of Arts degree in Journalism. During my study I did an internship at BYDANIE, where I learned much about journalism, communication and public relations. Recently I started as a freelance journalist where I help organizations with their PR and Social Media. This February I’ll go backpacking for two months through Asia, as a nice occlusion of my college years. When I get back from my trip I would really want to continue with this and expand Crew I am as much as possible.

In 2010 I founded the clothing brand Crew I am with my mother.
Crew I am is a fashion label originated from a common love for fashion. This love brought us together and resulted in a collection of must haves! We design and redesign clothing and sell this online and primarily in Ibiza. Every summer we respond to a spotted trend seen by us and translate this in a piece of clothing or accessory. Up until now I didn’t have enough time to really focus on Crew I am, because of my study. But I’m so excited to pick it up again after my trip. Perhaps I will be even more inspired by the oriental influences that I will gain there. Besides enjoying the things that I do now, I hope to become successful one day. I believe if you stay truly close to yourself and love what you do, success is guaranteed!

2. What inspires you?
The person that inspires me the most is my mother with whom I started Crew I am. Usually street style inspires me. For example, I love going out for drinks while checking out how fashion trends are translated in different ways on the streets. The web is also a huge inspiration. My favorite fashion bloggers are Lizzy van der Ligt and Madame de Rosa. Although my bank balance is not sufficient for Isabel Marant, Chanel and Balmain, these brands are very inspirational. Therefore Crew I am is a way to translate those amazing fashion trends into my own creativity that is
affordable for everyone.

3. How does fashion inspire you?
I think fashion can be seen as a medium. Just like art, culture, history and other media fashion carries a message within. You can tell a lot about someone’s personality by the way they dress. I’m always interested in the personalities of people in general and the way they uniquely express themselves by dressing differently. The message within Crew I am is love, every item has its own uniqueness and can be styled to your own personal look.

4. Can you describe your style?
Black, black and black! As a result of lack of color, my wardrobe looks pretty winter-y and desolate. The shades grey and black predominate my wardrobe. I also love chunky knits, scarves and ponchos. My favorite fashion item this winter was the shag vest, also known as a sleeveless fur vest. On the contrary, in the summer, I think that people would describe my style as Ibiza hippy / boho. This style influence can be traced back to the fact that I really like wearing maxi skirts, crop tops, lots of accessories, lace, headbands, you name it! Not only do I like the previous mentioned items but these styles also contain a rockish edge, like cut off shorts, tough shirts and biker boots. My own style and inspiration is reflected in the must haves from Crew I am.

5. My 'Get Inspired' quote is…
“Fashion fades, only style remains the same” - Coco Chanel
